Section Maps

Cadets learn both aviation and emergency services skills when they work with sectional maps.  Understanding latitude and longitude, map coordinates, and how sectional aeronautical charts are designed for visual navigation are excellent skills for on the ground and in the sky!

Cadets on Ground Team at Trainex

Cadets as young as 12 learn search and rescue techniques during monthly training missions.  Ground operations are a critical function of CAP's mission operations.  All members are appropriately trained and all trainees are under the guidance of a Qualified Supervisor.   CAP members are encouraged to take FEMA classes as well as work with a CAP Skills Evaluator to be ready to fulfill mission needs in our local communities.

Cadets in Osprey Helicopter

Cadets as young as 12 can go on field trips to learn more about aircraft.  Civil Air Patrol's Aerospace Education's Mission is to inspire the next generation of aviation, space and cyber leaders through STEM education.

Space Day

Working closely with Sharon Eggleston of the Maine Space Grant Cornsortium, Civil Air Patrol cadets from Brunswick 021 Squadron work with kids in the Brunswick area to teach them about the four forces of flight:  lift, thrust, drag and weight.  Civil Air Patrol makes Aerospace a focal point of our program and our cadets learn leadership skills while teaching peers concepts that focus on the science of flight.  National Space Day happens annually on the First Friday in May and is an exciting time to get kids interested in Civil Air Patrol and aerospace!

Orientation Flights

Cadet orientation flights are safe, fun and educational!  A Civil Air Patrol Cadet is allowed to handle the controls while aloft and learning how to fly planes is the main goal of the program.  During orientation flights, the learning objectives are:  the science of flight, including:  *the properties of air  * four foces of flight * lift and Bernoulli's principle * Newton's laws of motion * being able to describe the major parts of an aircraft * identify by sight the function of major flight instruments * flight maneuvers * weather and risk management.
